OSM to perform the opening concert of the Salzburg Festival

The Salzburg Festival has invited the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) and Kent Nagano to perform the opening concert of the 2018 Festival. On July 20, 2018, at the Festival’s Felsenreitschule the OSM will perform Krzysztof Penderecki’s epic St. Luke Passion as part of the composer’s 85th birthday celebrations. Scored for chorus, soloists and orchestra the work is also performed in the context of the Ouverture spirituelle concert series dedicated to sacred music and religiously inspired works.  St. Luke Passion premiered on March 30, 1966 in Münster Cathedral, Germany.

“For nearly a century, the Salzburg Festival has been an international reference in performances of the highest standard,” commented OSM Music Director Kent Nagano.

Maestro Nagano also takes to the Festival podium in August to conduct the Vienna Philharmonic in Krzysztof Warlikowski’s new production of Hans Werner Henze’s The Bassarids. The production will premiere on 16th August with subsequent performances on 19th, 23rd and 26th August.
